Ocean Observatories

Ocean (seafloor) observatories represent the only way to capture and quantify the temporal variability of processes. Recording episodic events (earthquakes and other natural hazards) or seasonal fluctuations is particularly significant because the data can be used for forecasts or even early warning systems.

MARUM develops devices that are installed in the water column, on the seafloor, or deep within the seafloor to provide such time series data.
