Report of GLOMAR PhD student Andreas Basse about his participation in the Gordon Research Seminar and Conference on Organic Geochemistry, Holderness, NH, USA, 28 July - 3 August 2012

The GORDON Research Seminar (GRS) & GORDON Research Conference (GRC) took place between 28.7.2012 & 03.8.2012 in Holderness, NH, USA. With about 180 participants the GORDON is a quite familiar but one of the most famous organic geochemistry meetings worldwide. I presented a talk with the title "Changes in the biomarker signatures of suspended organic matter caused by microbial activity and sediment resuspension and its impact on the deep sea sediment" and participated in many interesting oral and poster presentations. I really enjoyed meeting al lot of international scientist including Ann Pearson (MIT) and Tim Eglinton (ETH) and having fruitful discussions with them and other people from diverse scientific backgrounds in organic geochemistry. I also met other young scientists working on biomarkers in the marine water column but in other regions who made quite similar observations as mine. I got new ideas how to solve some questions that arose from my data. Before and after the conference I also had the great opportunity to visit the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI)

Many thanks to GLOMAR for giving me the financial support! It was a great experience and gave me a lot of inspiration to my further work in my PhD-project.
