RESEARCH FOCI

  • Paleoclimatological and paleoceanographical reconstructions
  • Terrestrial input
  • Marine productivity
  • Upwelling regions

PROXIES

I investigate marine sediments and apply the following palynological proxies:

Organic-walled dinoflagellate cysts (photos 1-3)
--> are produced in the upper water column and reflect oceanographic and environmental conditions

Pollen and spores (photos 4-6)
--> are transported from land and reflect continental hydrology

Both proxies combined allow for complex paleoclimatic reconstructions.
Lingulodinium machaerophorum
Cyst of Protoperidinium stellatum
Spiniferites mirabilis
Compositae
Artemisia
Typha
