Marine Robotics

Exploring the deep sea is only possible with the help of technical aids. In addition to traditional ship-based methods, which continue to be used in an improved form, robotic systems are now widely used in marine research.

Many of these systems are in use at MARUM. The range of applications extends from the sea surface (Uncrewed Surface Vehicle MARUM-Waveglider) to deep into the seabed (Seafloordrill System MARUM-MeBo70/200). The applications include a wide range of different devices, from stationary systems such as moorings, landers or seabed observatories to mobile systems such as remotely operated vehicles (ROV MARUM-SQUID and ROV MARUM-QUEST) or autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV MARUM-SEAL), which contribute to the exploration and better understanding of our oceans.
