Field characteristics
Spiniferites multisphaerus Price and Pospelova 2014
Field characteristics:
Oval to pear-shaped proximochorate cyst with a pronounced apical protuberance. Wall is relatively thick and is constructed of small bubble-like elements. Processes are stubby, furcate and contain hollow bubble like elements. Tabulation is clearly expressed. Acheopyle is formed by the loss of paraplate 3 (type P).
Dimensions: Cyst body: 36.5 (43.0) 51.0 µm (width) x 40.9 (50.1) 63.1 (length) µm; length of processes: 1.5 (4.4) 8.0 µm; wall thickness: 1.0 (1.5) 2.1 µm.
Motile affinity: unknown
Stratigraphic range: Recent
Comparison with other species:
This species can easily be distinguished from all other spiniferites species in having an apical protusion and a relatively thick cyst wall that consists of small bubble like elements.
