Modern Dinocyst Key
Spiniferites pacificus
Zonneveld, K.A.F. and Pospelova V. (2015). A determination key for modern dinoflagellate cysts. Palynology 39 (3), 387- 407.
Field characteristics
Spiniferites pacificus Zhao Yunyun and Morzadec-Kerfoorn 1994
Field characteristics:
Proximochorate spherical to ovoidal cyst with a microgranulate cell wall. Tabulation is expressed by low sutural septa and gonal trifurcate processes with bifid terminations. Intergonal processes can be present. The two antapical processes are clearly larger than the other processes. Archeopyle is precingular (type P).
Dimensions: Cyst body: 29.9 - 35.5 µm; length of processes: 10.8 µm. length of antapical processes: 13.2 µm.
Stratigraphic range: Pleistocene to Recent.
Comparison with other species:
The feature that is used to distinguish this species from the others is it’s enlarged antapical processes.
