Modern Dinocyst Key
Selenopemphix brevispinosum
Zonneveld, K.A.F. and Pospelova V. (2015). A determination key for modern dinoflagellate cysts. Palynology 39 (3), 387- 407.
Field Characteristics
Selenopemphix brevispinosum Head et al. 1989
Characteristics:
Cyst with smooth to faintly granulate body and utural ornament restricted to the sutural margins and consisting of short distally expanded processes. The archeopyle is large and offset; 2a intercalary.
Motile affinity: unknown
Dimensions: Cyst body (excluding processes): 36 - 48 µm, processes: 1.2 - 3.2 µm.
Comparison with other species:
This species is the only brown cyst species with a peridinioid form that has irregular distally expanded spines/processes restricted to the two cingular rims. The process length and width can vary within the species.
